Do you face nervousness and freeze during competit Do you face nervousness and freeze during competitions?

But are you a star player in practice?

What goes wrong?

Why does so much pressure hit you suddenly and why can’t you handle it?

Here comes to the rescue - Visualization.

The powerful technique that helps you feel confident before and during the match.

Remember to

1. Mentally rehearse your performance
2. Do it daily, not just before the match
3. Focus on the details, muscle movements, and skills [It should feel real]
4. Imagine as if it’s happening right now in the present, not in the future
5. Make sure you only visualize positive emotions and things [winning, playing well] and not the opposite [getting nervous, feel under-confident] It should be what you want to see happening, not what you’re scared of.

🧠 This will activate your mirror neurons and keep you mentally prepared for you match.

🤔 Ever felt like you’re stuck in a cycle of n 🤔 Ever felt like you’re stuck in a cycle of negative thoughts and no matter what you do, you’re going to fail?

Yeah, that’s a lot of us.

🧠 This is your limbic system (the emotional part of your brain) taking over.

✅ Our brain responds to emotions and logic. So when the limbic system is out of control, the only way to tune it down is with logic.

By activating our brain’s logical and thinking centre (the cortex) we can come up with strong evidence to challenge our negative thoughts.

➡️➡️➡️

1. State your negative thought
2. Challenge it by asking “why is this not true”
3. List the facts and Replace the thought

😊 Watch your negative thought become weaker and even disappear.

🤔 Of course, it’s not always easy to do this. When we can’t see the facts for ourselves, and are lost in our emotional centre, we need more grounding techniques, more honest reflection, and also guidance in the form of therapy if required.

What a coach says can have a direct affect on the mental state of an athlete and can change their psychology.

Coaches need to have a positive approach to make athletes feel motivated and encouraged.

❌Things to avoid:

1. Comparison with other players
2. Neglecting athlete’s needs
3. Making negative comments about body image

There are many more things coaches should be aware of when talking to athletes. We’ll cover them in the next few posts!

To be honest…I had a lot of fun making this reel To be honest…I had a lot of fun making this reel! 😄

It’s my first conversation between an athlete and well, me.

❌ Disclaimer: THIS IS NOT HOW a SESSION goes.

A session is usually longer and takes a lot more questioning and reasoning to reach a pain point and root cause of an athlete’s problem.

✅ However, hopefully throughout this piece you could get an insight into a common issue faced by many athletes.

🧠 When you bring details of your opponent into the picture you have already primed your brain (cognitive priming) to play a certain way.

To save yourself from cognitive priming, be blank to the personal details of your opponent.

They are well, just another player. A boy, girl, man, woman, or any other gender, it doesn’t matter.

💪🏽 If you can separate the details, you are one step closer to reducing performance anxiety.

Train your mind to focus on yourself. Your game, style, strengths, and skills.

➡️ Follow for more help in training your mind and sport psychology.
